Living with Fibromyalgia

Living with Fibromyalgia is a very challenging task. The sufferer of Fibromyalgia experiences a wide variety of symptoms. Many times, the Fibromyalgia patient does not “look” sick, so the people around them may not realize just how much that they are dealing with. Chances are, the person living with Fibromyalgia, had to endure years of testing, clinical trials, and misdiagnosis before being officially diagnosed. In this article, we will expound on ways that a person can live comfortably with Fibromyalgia.

If you are living with Fibromyalgia, the first thing that you should accept is limitation. It is important to understand that you do have a limitation. Exceeding your limitations may result in a Fibromyalgia flare-up that can last days, weeks, and even months. With Fibromyalgia, we all have our good days. Often, when we feel good, we try to catch up on the things that have fallen behind when we were not feeling so well. It is very important to pace yourself and not go overboard with activity on your good days. Take one-step at a time. We did not learn to walk in one day, and we will not learn our limitations in one day. It takes time to understand how much your body is able to endure, but once you have figured it out, it is best to adjust to it.

Many people with Fibromyalgia find themselves overcommitted. It is quite easy to fall in the trap of having committed yourself to many different things. As I stated previously, many people do not realize just how sick that you are because you do not “look” sick. It is common for people to ask you to do things, or expect you to do things because you “look” fine. You should explain to people that you are not up to doing things if you are not. Make sure that people who deal with you closely understand that you may have to cancel at the last minute because you are experiencing a flare-up, or something similar. Let them know that, as much as you would love to do the things that they wish to do, that it is not always possible for you.

If you are living with Fibromyalgia, it is extremely important that you educate the people around you so that they understand exactly what you are dealing with. You may want to gather information from the internet, or doctor’s office, and pass it out to friends and family members. This will ensure that they understand the condition that you are living with on a day-to-day basis. You may want to order pizza and invite people over for dinner and have a talk with each one of them to ensure that they understand. This will also give people the opportunity to ask questions and get answers about your condition.

Living with Fibromyalgia can be difficult. If you follow the steps listed in this article, living with Fibromyalgia can be a little easier to deal with.
